The short version

What stays on your device

Your settings (sound, skin, Echo on or off), your stars, the board size you like, the nickname you type for duels and Live Wire, and quizzes you've built but not shared yet. This lives in your browser's own storage. We can't see it. Clearing your browser data, or Erase my stuff, removes it.

What goes online, and why

An invisible player ID
A random code your browser gets the first time it connects. It lets you edit your own quizzes and play duels. It isn't tied to a name, email, phone number or address.
Quizzes you share
The name, questions, answers, colors and picture. These are public: anyone can play them. That's the point of the game.
Duels
The nickname you pick, the moves, and where you hid your words. Only you can see your own hidden words.
Finished games
Which quiz, board size, whether you won, and how many you got right. No names. We use it to count how many games are played and which quizzes are too hard.
Anonymous play counts
When a game starts, finishes, gets quit, or a quiz is printed, we count it: which game, which quiz, and a few numbers like how many questions were asked. For each question we only add to three counters: asked, right on the first try, missed. These counts carry no player ID at all, not even the invisible one, so they can't be tied to anyone. They show us which games people like and which questions are too hard, so we can fix them.
Reports
Which quiz was reported and the reason you picked. We use it to hide quizzes that break the rules.
Live Wire links
Nothing. The secret word rides inside the link you send. It never goes to our database.

What we never collect

Real names, email addresses, phone numbers, birthdays, home or school addresses, your location, contacts, or photos from your camera roll (unless you choose to add one to a quiz you build). We don't use advertising, analytics companies, social media trackers, or cookies for tracking.

Who helps run it

That's it. Fonts and game code are served from playthestatic.com itself, so no other company sees you visit.

Kids and safety rules

The Static is made for families and classrooms. We don't ask anyone for personal information, and nobody needs an account to play.

Parents and teachers: if you see something that shouldn't be there, or want something deleted, email us and a real person will handle it.
